INSON DUBOIS WOOD

Tis the season.....for all the best design books to come out! And there are some great ones this season! I don't know if you are aware of the amazingly talented Inson Dubois Wood, but if not, I am very happy to introduce you.  Please meet: Inson Dubois Wood:Interiors by Inson Dubois Wood, Rizzoli New York, 2016.  Mr. Wood has had his work published in Architectural Digest,Tradition Home, Luxe Interiors + Design and New York Spaces. Rizzoli was kind enough to send me a copy to review for you all!

So, where to begin? The oldest of seven siblings, (seven!!!) Mr. Wood started life in New York, the offspring of parents who had migrated there from Paris where they had met. His father was originally from Thailand and his mother's family, originally from France,  migrated to the US where she was born. Wood's parents did split up giving him two households of experience growing up. Father was an artist, Mother was an educator and activist....Stepfather was an architect, and stepmother, an English Expat artist and Buddhist.  This meant  lots of travel and artistic influence for Mr. Wood.

Emancipated by 16, Inson Dubois Wood went on to graduate from Cornell School of Architecture, then went on to Harvard Graduate School of Design. Over the years, he worked for Kume in Japan, Juan Pablo Molyneux and David Easton before starting his own company,

This is Inson Wood's first book on his own body of design work. And it is brought to you by the always excellent Rizzoli. Let me just say that this book is beautifully executed. This large coffee table size book has a  cover photo that is gorgeous enough, but I always appreciate what might be under the cover. In this case, the book is bound in a color that makes most think of Hermes....Orange(!) with the title heavily embossed in black. I don't know who the person is that designs the bindings, but kudos for a job well done! The  beautiful photography is by Mark Roskams. You will often see his work in Architectural Digest and Elle Decor.

But I know why you are really here.... am I right? So...on with the show.......

So, does this wet your appetite?  Honestly, there are so many images in this book, it was hard to narrow down just a few to get you revved up. The layout of this book is all about the photos. They are full bleed with just enough text throughout to give you the most important information. It is almost like a portfolio presentation of Wood's work. Each project is shown in its own chapter. There is a description of each....and then it is on with all of the photos. There are 21 projects shown in locations ranging from Manhattan to Saint-Tropez, Paris, The Hamptons, Mallorca. Change Mai, Berlin, Greenwich CN and Como, Italy. Each more stunning that the last. Travel much? If so, you will appreciate the variety!

Home Design at its best is personal. It shows places that reflect those who live there. It shows things that one can find nowhere else. One of a kind. Just like you. I hope this book inspires you all to express who you are through your environment....what you put in it, how it looks and feels, and who you invite in. It is clear that Inson Dubois Wood is a master at helping his clients show who they are.

Thank you all for visiting me here at katie d.i.d!
